First Signs of Fall

In the days before the Lake City Wine Festival, the aspens finally started to change colors.  September's heavy rains kept the leaves green longer than normal.

Salmon and September Fishing on the Lake Fork

September fishing in Lake City features spawning brown trout and kokanee salmon.  Unfortunately, continued rains kept the local rivers high and murky and made the fish hard to spot and target.  We did, however, find some days that were fishable.

Lake Fork Sunset

After a number of days where the Lake Fork was blown out from heavy rains, I eventually made it back out to the river for a some evening fishing and an absolutely incredible sunset.

Hummingbird Fight

I was walking out to the deck one morning when I saw two hummingbirds chasing each other around.  The fight got intense enough that they both lost their bearings and smacked into the glass door, which knocked them silly.  By the time I grabbed my camera, one of the little guys had come to and flown off.  The remaining hummingbird had to collect himself a little longer before he was ready to leave.

This little guy had to take a quick nap before he was ready to move on.

Floating the Gunnison

September was especially rainy in Lake City, and the constant rains often left the Lake Fork too murky to fish.  On this beautiful morning, we headed to the Gunnison River for clearer water.

I don't think I've ever seen the Lake Fork this murky before
