Fishing the Green River

I hit the Green River back in September when I visited Park City, and the fishing was great--lots of of fish taking huge dry flies, scuds, and streamers.  I went back in the spring for two days on the water.  This time the fish were keyed in on BWOs that were hatching.  I had fun fooling nice fish on dries before I switched to a nymph rig to get some bigger fish.  I didn't land any monsters, but I had a great time on the water.

First fish: a nice, healthy brown.  Pretty average out here

Nice, heavy, pregnant rainbow.  I couldn't grab her by the belly--too full of eggs!

Exploring the Park City Area

After watching the Longhorns' season implode against BYU, I headed up into the mountains toward Park City to explore the town and nearby fishing holes and to start looking for a job.

After spending a couple of days in Park City, I started working my way back to Lake City--first stop was the Weber River just 30 minutes from Park City.

I came to a halt walking back to my truck when I caught this sunset reflecting in my window

After staying the night in Evanston, Wyoming, I made my way to the famous Green River below the Flaming Gorge Reservoir: the fishing did not disappoint!

Green River: The Green River joins the Colorado River in Canyonlands National Park

Super chunky 19-inch rainbow on the Green

Scene of the Crime: I lost my last fish of the day in this stretch of the Green: he was easily 22-inches (if not considerably bigger) and burned through 50 yards of line before throwing my fly with an impressive back flip.  I need to get back here soon!

Canyonlands National Park

After watching the sun set at Arches National Park and grabbing dinner in Moab, I camped in my truck and woke up to this view:

Car (truck) camping sunrise
I hurried over to Canyonlands National Park to catch more of the sunrise and take in the canyons in the early morning light.

Missed a few too many meals during my travels, or are my shorts actually that baggy?

After taking in as many sights as I could in a morning, I headed northwest to Provo to take in the Texas-BYU game (*sigh*).
